Teaching English in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico was a truly unforgettable experience. The time I spent there gave me the opportunity to live and work in the community, getting to know local citizens and assisting them on their journey to becoming bilingual. Not only were my students eager to learn, they were also kind, generous and warm, adjectives that I would say also describe the Mexican people in general.
During my free time I explored San Miguel which is one of Mexico’s most charming (and safe) pueblos. I also enjoyed the many art galleries, excellent food scene and vibrant night life.
Volunteering to teach English, I was not just another tourist. I was a teacher but also a language learner myself, doing my part to bridge the language divide and achieve a deeper understanding of the Mexican people and their culture.
